Keep It Green, a DDAP-licensed recovery house, was founded in 1999 by Ray Hess. As a person in recovery himself, Ray’s vision was to create a safe, supportive environment where people new to recovery could build the structure, skills, and confidence needed for long-term success. Over the years, that vision has grown into a network of eight residences serving both men and women, with additional sober living homes for those who are ready for a quieter, more independent next step.
Keep It Green continues to be owned and operated by people in recovery, which gives us a unique level of compassion, insight, and connection with the individuals we serve. We take genuine joy in witnessing the transformation that happens when someone enters recovery with hope—and begins to build a life they’re proud of.
Keep It Green follows a proven model built on structure, accountability, and genuine compassion. With decades of lived experience guiding our approach, our staff hold residents to high standards while recognizing that growth often includes learning from mistakes. We don’t shame or criticize — instead, we support, guide, and encourage.
When a resident first enters the home, we focus on building communication and connection through frequent check-ins. This early support helps residents settle in, understand expectations, and feel like they have someone in their corner from day one. Our homes are grounded in 12-step principles, and residents are encouraged to participate in the fellowship of their choice each day for the first 90 days, and to maintain active involvement as they continue to grow.
All able-bodied residents are expected to work full time, as steady employment is an important part of rebuilding independence. New arrivals begin their job search on the first business day after intake, with staff and housemates offering guidance and encouragement along the way.
Our homes stay clean, peaceful, and comfortable through shared responsibility. Each resident is assigned a daily chore, and clear expectations are posted in every house so everyone knows what is needed to keep the home running smoothly. Substance and alcohol use are not tolerated, and all residents agree to random drug testing. Stealing, violence, and threats of violence are strictly prohibited on all Keep It Green property — safety and respect are non-negotiable.
Above all, we work to create a community rich in helpers. When a new resident walks through the door, established housemates rally around them. They offer help getting to meetings, share meals when someone is hungry and short on resources, and show compassion to those who arrive feeling lost, broken, or unsure of themselves. This spirit of connection is the heart of Keep It Green — people helping people, one day at a time
Keep it Green asks for a six-month commitment, giving residents the time and structure they need to build a strong foundation in recovery. Over the years, many people have chosen to stay longer, simply because they feel supported, connected, and not quite ready to take the next step. We never remove someone just because they’ve reached the six-month mark—if a resident feels they need more time, they are welcome to remain in the recovery house.
For residents who are ready for a quieter setting with more independence, we also offer a sober house option, depending on bed availability. The sober house provides single rooms, less supervision, and a calmer environment for those who want continued support without rushing into their own apartment. It’s a gentler transition for people who are still strengthening their footing and want to move forward at a pace that feels right for them
To continue providing safe, clean, and comfortable homes, we charge an intake fee along with modest weekly rent. Rates vary slightly depending on the house assignment, and we always prorate rent for anyone arriving in the middle of a rent week. Our goal is to keep costs fair and transparent so residents can focus on what truly matters — their recovery.
$170 - $175
We do have a limited number of beds available for those that are coming in without money up front. We would never want money to stand in the way of someone's chance at recovery. If you can not afford the intake fees, but are willing to do what it takes to get on your feet talk to staff and see what your options are.
There are a few scholarships available to help out in those first few months. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, talk with our knowledgeable staff before arrival and we can try to find the best option for you.
